Coronavirus Disease Outbreak. So much chaos this has brought the human race in the span of… days? What seems to be shown only in movies can actually happen in real life. So surreal, so overwhelming, so scary. People are sensory overloaded with all the updates from different platforms of social media, news on TV, radio AM/FM (while driving in what used to be such busy, traffic roads and highways), colleagues at work talking (keeping in mind “social distancing”), family conversations, phone calls, video calls, messages in different forms and directions… This fear of the unknown has quickly spread through the face of the earth and just shook the whole humanity. It is even more alarming now that the world’s main events, shows, celebrations, traditions, now schools, are all suspended… Each nation is in different states of emergency and some in lock down.
How can we even shed light to something so dreadful as this new deadly virus causing so much distress in every form? Especially when the death toll rise every single day?
It is so easy to be fearful as we feed off each other. Whether we like it or not we have to hear what is new today, how many new cases and deaths, and what to do now. But it is also normal to be fearful of the unknown, especially when the shelves in the stores are empty, when we don’t know how close we are from being infected, when we have no choice but to go to work because we are needed to provide essential services, when we think about what will happen in our little children’s near future. It is so hard to think positive when we are panic stricken; when we know someone is actually affected by this; when we are directly struck by this horrid disease.
Is there hope? Are we possibly meant to learn something from all of these? Do we even need to have faith? Is it too late? Maybe not? We are now forced to slow down, quarantine at home, and go back–to ourselves, away from everybody… So that maybe we can re-learn how to reflect and pray again… And so we can do this not just for ourselves but for others’ sake… And have HOPE that this too shall pass. We can start from here.
